Favorite Things: Botanical Whimsy

As we launch into summer, my desire to spend all the time I can get outdoors takes over. I love a good garden scape with shady areas for sitting, frolicking and enjoying the wonders of nature. My love for botanical gardens shines through my collections of butterfly (and moth) motifs, admittedly an obsession of mine since childhood that I thought I would grow out of. I’m glad that these special creatures inspire so much joy and whimsy in me.

This set of four coasters by Thomas Paul is made of melamine featuring different butterfly prints in each. They’re durable, beautiful, easy to clean and add sweet charm to my coffee table.

I received this beautiful deck by Tricia Hersey in a care package from Conscious Homestead. It features 50 cards with rest practices on one side and powerful accompanying statements on the other. The botanical prints transport me to my own tropical oasis. I place the deck on my work desk and post the cards all over my home to ground me in a state of restful balance.

This wallpaper from Carmine Lake has me smiling every time I see it. It’s definitely on my lineup for upcoming projects. The background paired with the adorned bugs are giving a dark and moody vibe with a heavy dose of fancifulness that would shine in a dining, powder or dressing room.

I fell in love with this shirt by Paisley and Gray when I took Brian shopping at Men’s Wearhouse. As soon as Brian saw me try it on, he wanted one too! I like a bit of twinning with my boo every now and then.

Inspiring Artist: Javiera Estrada

I first stumbled on Estrada’s work on Saatchi Art and have been mesmerized since. The artist considers herself a psychological archeologist and her work is influenced by memories of growing up in lush Acapulco . Her inner digging and laborious techniques bring forth vibrant and thought provoking pieces. From photographs that celebrate and juxtapose the female form with nature to her electrifying floral prints, I am thoroughly smitten and putting her works on my wishlist.

I’m always on the lookout for a fun coloring book. This one by Kerby Rosanes takes it a step further with its enchanting images of 56 endangered, vulnerable and threatened animals and landscapes. Coloring is one of the ways I practice rest and mindfulness. What better way than to ponder on our planet and dream of its restoration.
