2023 Home Trends to Inspire You

There’s been several lists made by magazines, trade shows, designers and tastemakers on the top 2023 home design trends. I like to watch the trends to stay current, be challenged and get inspiration. It goes without saying that style and design is very personal. Whatever the trends, our spaces should always reflect who we are.

If you’re looking for inspiration, here’s a few trends that I’m excited to explore in 2023:

Going dark and moody

Dark and moody colors have been trending for quite some time. They have a way of making your art, greenery and furniture pop while accentuating rich textiles like velvet and silk.

You can go dark in any space as long as you have carefully considered natural and artificial light sources. This trend goes well with the monochromatic trend. Painting walls, trim and doors the same dark color can give your space effortless coziness and sophistication. The elements are kept cohesive by sticking to a minimal color story.

Going antiquing

Antiquing and thrifting have become hugely popular nowadays. The need for affordable, quality and readily available furniture has driven folks to garage and estate sales, thrift stores and an ever growing digital treasure trove of pre-loved pieces.

From sites like 1stDibs, Chairish and One Kings Lane to sellers on Etsy, FaceBook Marketplace and Instagram, there’s more options than ever before for finding pre-loved pieces. This includes hardware, and fixtures like lighting and fireplace mantles! These items add charm and character to your home and you can expect them to continue to stand the test of time.

Going for the fifth wall

I believe the ceiling, or 5th wall is just as important as the four walls in a space. A well designed ceiling helps ground your space or elevate it depending on the need.

It’s an opportunity to add expertly crafted trim work, vaulting, wallpaper or a color that complements the walls.

The placement and style of your lighting help guide your options with designing your ceiling. By designing your fifth wall, you help the eye travel seamlessly throughout your space.

Going for stone

Marble, terrazzo, and travertine are popular stone options in 2023. Deeply veined marbles are seen more in kitchens as a slab backsplash or as a fireplace mantle. Porcelain tiles that look like marble are an affordable and durable option for bathrooms. Travertine and marble tiles are sophisticated options for flooring.

You can create beautiful geometric designs with stone tiles in your foyer and main bathroom for a timeless look.

You can also add stone decor pieces in your home like sculptures, busts, bookends, jars and pedestals. Because they come from nature, stone decor add both stability and softness in your spaces. I look forward to working more with stone tables of all kinds - dining, coffee side tables as well as tools.

Which trend do you think you’d like to explore this year? Is it anything I haven’t listed? Sound off in the comments with your inspirations.
