Top 3 Burlington restaurants for vegetarians and vegans

When you have a restricted diet, it usually comes with restricted dining out options. Luckily for you, you’ve chosen to live in or around Burlington, Vermont!

Here are our 3 favorite restaurants with the best vegetarian/ vegan menu items that are both healthy and yummy-delish!

Best bang for your buck: Zabby & Elf’s Stone Soup

Located just off the Church Street Marketplace near the corner of South Winooski & College, this cozy little shop is currently open at 9am Tuesday-Saturday, with extended hours until 8pm on Th/Fri/Sat.

When they’re open, the aroma can often be smelt from the streets, especially in the summer when their patio is open.

But it’s during the winter months that we like to visit most. After all, soup is just oh-so perfect on a snowy day! Their rotating menu and hot-and-cold bars offer vegetarian-heavy options, proud to serve locally-sourced, farm-to-table foods. They also offer catering!

Our Pick: Vegan club sandwich with tofu, tempeh, vegan mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion.

Best spot for date night: The Daily Planet

Opening at 5pm and offering an array of potent potables, this Burlington staple since 1982 is located in the heart of downtown on Center Street. With a wonderfully romantic and interesting aesthetic —featuring exposed brick and pipes for that modern industrial look with soft touches of artwork and fabrics throughout — it’s perfect for intimate conversation.

The menu offers multiple vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free items, such as the brocolini al forno, garlicky green beans, vegan bolognese and lots of salads. It’s okay if your date is a carnivore - steak frites, pork loin and salmon are also on the menu.

Our pick: Beyond the Planet Burger, an impossible patty with all-vegan ingredients.

Best overall: Tomgirl Kitchen

Oh. Em. Gee.

Open daily for lunch, this organic restaurant on Pine Street provides its community with a colorful menu that’s harder to find meat options on than vegetarian!

Offering an array of salads, smoothies, acai bowls, baked goods and even special cleanse events, if it’s a healthy gut you want, this is the place to go. Deliciously healthy with options for everyone in your party, regardless of their tastes or preferences, there’s truly something delicious for everyone here.

Our pick: Acai in Paradise Bowl, full of Omega-9 and clean fatty acids in the yummiest way!

Bottom line

There are all sorts of awesomely delicious vegetarian and vegan options in this beautiful town.

Bon apetit!
